July 2021 Events at Little Professor: Authors, Story Time, and More!
This past month at Little Professor, we were fortunate to host a variety of special events! We welcomed authors, local dignitaries, teachers, and plenty of Homewood residents to connect over literacy, conversation, and community.
For author events, we welcomed two local writers. First, we hosted the book launch for the release of The One You're With, the newest novel from bestselling author Lauren Denton. During this event, Lauren engaged in dialogue with one of our team members, Gretchen, mingled with the roughly 40 guests, and signed plenty of books!
Later in the month, we welcomed Dr. Renée Harmon and Alzheimer's of Central Alabama for the event, "Caregiving, Love, and Loss." Dr. Harmon has a memoir, Surfing the Waves of Alzheimer's, in which she talks about caregiving through the lens of her husband's early-onset Alzheimer's diagnosis and her years as a physician. At her Little Professor event, Dr. Harmon sat down with our veteran bookseller Kathleen to discuss the book and to offer advice for people in similar situations.
During our July story time for kids, we had an all-star line-up of guest readers. Tynley Baker, the librarian at the Highlands School, read for us on July 7, followed by Lauren Denton on July 14. On July 21, we were so excited to host Randall Woodfin, the Mayor of Birmingham, for a sold out audience. We closed out the month with a few Homewood celebrities: Ms. Krueger, kindergarten teacher at Edgewood Elementary, Mrs. Woodruff, and Foxie the School Dog.
Lastly, we hosted our second Book Club Social for our LP Book Club's Summer Series. Our readers spent the first part of the evening enjoying beverages and snacks and followed that with breakout conversation in their book club groups.
Thanks to everyone who made July so special, and we cannot wait for all to come in August!
