When historian Jillian Hobbs is fired from her job, loses her apartment and finds out her fiancé is unfaithful she is devastated. Out of options Jillian returns to a rundown lake house in Okoboji, Iowa she inherited from her aunt. Okoboji is a tourist paradise in the summer but this is January, the town is all but deserted and Jill needs a job. By chance she lands a position as a part-time librarian. His plan is to unearth his treasure, drive cross country in his decrepit Model T and reunite with his wife and child in Winnipeg, Canada. As he travels through rain and snow Will is certain he's being followed. He's correct. His former boss Harold Dunn needs Will's gold to save the life of his desperately ill daughter. He'll stop at nothing to get that gold. When a snowstorm causes Will to drive onto an Okoboji lake by mistake it appears the gold is lost forever. But is it?
