About the Project
The Homewood 7th Grade Girl Scout Troop is working on their Silver Award Project—an important milestone for Girl Scouts. As part of the project, the troop is creating Pathways Pages, a lending library at Pathways Women and Children’s Shelter in downtown Birmingham. The girls have already built a large bookshelf to house the library and are now seeking help to fill it. To do so, they are holding a gift card drive with Little Professor Bookshop to purchase approximately 250 books.
During a site visit to Pathways, the troop noticed there were very few books available for residents, and especially limited options for children living at the shelter. Since then, the girls have been learning how to create a representative and comprehensive lending library that includes books that both entertain and inform. Their goal is to stock the shelves with stories for babies through adults, along with helpful resources on topics such as parenting, science, careers, cooking, sports, and more.
Community members are invited to support the project by purchasing a Little Professor gift card that the troop will use to buy books for the Pathways library. Contributions support Pathways Shelter and a dedicated group of Girl Scouts who have been together as a troop since Kindergarten (and who have likely sold many community members a box or two of Girl Scout cookies over the years).
We would love for you to contribute and forward this on to anyone who might be interested in supporting this amazing initiative! 📚
